The remains of the bridge over the River Eye, looking North towards Melton North. The original bridge pier is intact although the superstructure & abutments have been demolished & replaced with this pedestrian bridge.
The joint line closed to regular passenger traffic on December 5th 1953 although it remained open for holiday excursion & freight. The last excursions ran in September 1962. Freight traffic was withdrawn on the 29th May 1964 when the line closed completely. The track was lifted soon after.
