On Wednesday 07 September 2011, a DB Schenker Rail Class 60 locomotive was named The Spirit of Tom Kendell during a private ceremony at Knottingley depot.

The naming was held in remembrance of a Tom Kendell, a young and enthusiastic engineer at the company who lost his life in an accident.

The name was unveiled in front of friends and family members of Tom after short speeches by John Langton, Head of Risk Management for DB Schenker Rail, and Tom’s mother, Andrea Kendell.

The name was unveiled by Tom’s father, Mark Kendell. The locomotive has also had the logo of DB Schenker Rail’s safety campaign for employees, called Switch on to Safety, applied to it.
