DG83077: The Transport Minister, The Right Hon Philip Hammond MP named EMT Meridian 222006 'The Carbon Cutter' at St Pancras this morning. The event was to celebrate the refurbishment of EMTs Meridian fleet which has included software upgrades to allow engines to be switched out at stations and in motion. The introduction of this system allows the number of diesel engines on the train to be matched to the duty required to reduce diesel consumption, noise, emissions and maintenance costs. It’s calculated that the improvements will save 800,000 litres of fuel per year.
