Abellio's East Midlands Railway franchise took over the former EMT franchise from the 18th August 2019. The franchise is due to run for 8 years, until 21st August 2027. In the next two years it will completely replace the existing train fleet with a mixture of brand new bi-mode Intercity trains built by Hitachi and trains cascaded from other Abellio franchises. Class 360 EMUs will arrive from Anglia and Class 170 DMUs from Scotrail.
