In May 1990 Doncaster Works held an open day and these are my pictures from the event.

Looking back, nearly 22 years later, the changes are striking. In 1990 Donny was still refurbishing and repairing 1st generation DMUs and a host of different locomotive classes, as well as carrying out accident repairs.

Looking through the pictures the general untidiness and ramshackle nature of some of the equipment is in stark contrast to many of today's repair establishments. Donny has the air of a works that hasn't moved on much from the steam era - even if the traction is different.

Now, in 2011, little of whats in these pictures remains - even the Crimpsall shops themselves are history.
